It might have been the spotlit statue of the pigs on the roof of the tiny Elgin restaurant, but I doubt it. It was the soft bun soaked with the juicy, vinegary, tomatoey sauce, the pickle-spiced shredded beef or pork topped with vinegar-based coleslaw. It’s just a memory now though, Morris Barbecue closed decades ago.
I wonder why they closed. BBQ is still very popular, it seems.
I think it was a family-run business and the owner refused to give up the recipe. It apparently died with him. People claim to have it, but how can anyone really know if they haven’t tasted the real thing for decades?
I love the sound of that. Food memories are so strong sometimes.
